The aim of the project was to transform the training on track safety in the metro area, the training of metro lookout person, the training on track and electrical safety in the tramway and the safety orientation of visitors to the metro environment into self-paced online training in the e-learning environment of Kaupunkiliikenne Oy. The work was divided into three parts, design, production of training materials and production of short videos with a subcontractor. At the beginning of the project, the current status of the trainings was assessed in terms of the relevance of the learning materials and the content of the exams. The teaching materials had been used for face-to-face teaching, so the text content of the slides was limited, and illustrations were also used in moderation.
Co-development was applied at different stages of the project
During the project, cervise design method co-development was applied. Co-development was already part of the design of the training curricula, as the representatives of the client were also involved in the curriculum development process. Feedback on the produced training materials was received from the experts of the client, who have practical working experience in metro and tramway environments. This feedback was very valuable in refining the content and improving the usability of the trainings.
The videos included in the trainings were produced in cooperation with Kuulu Oy. The conceptualisation of the training videos was a really critical stage of the production, as it determined, among other things, the filming locations. The scripts also included the design of subtitles, animation and effects for the videos. The client gave his comments on the scripts before the filming. This was done to ensure that the videos were realistic, relevant and included the necessary content.
After the filming , the subcontractor made drafts of the videos, on which the project team and the client gave their suggestions for improvements. These were used to finalise the videos before transferring them to the learning environment, where they were created as interactive, i.e. containing tasks. The client was satisfied with the overall result once the details of the videos were finalised. This would not have been possible without co-development and a combination of skills.
